Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojna: About 5.3 Crore bank accounts opened so far - 3.12 Cr in rural India

NEW DELHI, OCT 03, 2014: ON review of implementation of the PMJDY with PSBs and also some private banks, it has been found that as many as 5.3 Crore bank accounts have been opened so far - 3.12 Cr in rural and 2.17 Cr in urban areas.

The highlights of the Review are as follows:

++ The UTs of Puducherry & Chandigarh have covered all households, with provision of banking facilities.

++ Two Districts in Country i.e. Mehsana and Porbandar in Gujarat have covered all households under PMJDY with provision of banking facilities.

++ As on date 5.29 Crore accounts have been opened under PMJDY of which 3.12 Crore in Rural and 2.17 Crore are in Urban areas. RuPay Card have been issued in 1.78 Crore accounts.

++ There is pendency in issuance of RuPay Card, for which banks have been advised to increase their capacity of issuance of RuPay Card and clear the backlog quickly. While most of the Banks expect Backlog to be cleared by 15th Oct, in some Banks it may take 4 weeks.

++ Survey work for identification of uncovered households have been initiated by the banks and will be completed by 10th Oct, except in the State of Haryana and Maharashtra where survey work has been temporarily suspended in view of Assembly Elections.

++ People have been requested to cooperate with Bank Officials during Household Survey being conducted by Bank Officials.

++ Person having Aadhaar Number are requested to open their account by using Aadhaar Number as KYC Document.

++ People not having Aadhaar Numbers are requested to enroll themselves at Aadhaar Registration Counter available in account opening camps organized by Banks.

++ Toll free numbers for redressal of grievances and queries under PMJDY have been set up at National and state level.
