CBI tells Minister people have 'misplaced' perception about their autonomy

By TIOL News Service

NEW DELHI, JUNE 14, 2014: THE CBI Director, Mr Ranjeet Kumar Sinha, on Saturday made a detailed presentation before the MoS, DoP&T and hammered the point that the public perception about the agency being independent and having autonomy in its working is 'misplaced' as it continues to face several constraints in its day to day working.

The CBI Director stated that the premier agency has to put up with red tape in its interaction with Ministry of Law, DoP&T, CVC and Ministry of Home.

Crying over the paucity of funds the agency told the Minister that it has liabilities of Rs 47 Crore and vacancies at various levels running into several hundreds.

The CBI Director also expressed his anguish over the fact that he has no say in the selection of his subordinate officers althogh he is invited by the Selection Panel to watch the proceedings but without any contribution.
