JCIT bribery case: CBI seaches 16 places; seizes cash, diamond, gold and papers; Accused remanded to judicial custody till Jan 23

CHENNAI, JAN 11, 2015: IN a follow-up action to the yesterday's episode in which one JCIT and a Chartered Accountant were nabbed the CBI, a countrywide search operation was conducted today at 16 places in Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Dimapur and Kolkata. Several incriminating documents, files, cash, diamond and gold jewels, silver bars, cell phones, laptops, ipad, hard disks have been seized.
Netizens may recall that the bribe was allegedly demanded and accepted by JCIT Sallong Yaden to give a favourable report on the Income Tax search conducted on a private company based in Chennai. In this regard, CBI had registered a case against Sallong Yaden and Hitesh Kawad, Managing Director, M/s. SPR and RG Constructions, Sanjay Bhandari of S.H. Bhandari & Co., Chartered Accountants, Shreyans Bhandari S/o. Sanjay Bhandari, resident of T.Nagar, Chennai.
The CBI sleuths have arrested all the accused after thorough interrogation and were produced before the Principal Special Judge for CBI Cases, Chennai and they have been remanded to judicial custody till 23rd January 2015.
The CBI Press Release states that searches have also been conducted at nine places in Chennai alone.
Investigation is in progress and scrutiny of the documents is continuing.
