CBI nabs former HC Judge in medical admission scam

NEW DELHI, SEPT 22, 2017: THE Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a retired Judge of High Court of Orissa and five private persons, including a Chairman of a private medical college in Lucknow, one hawala operator and three other private persons in an on-going investigation of case.
The arrested accused are being produced today before the Designated Court in Delhi.
It may be recalled that CBI had registered a case against retired Judge of the High Court of Orissa; five private persons and other unknown public servants & private persons u/s 120-B of IPC and section 8 of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988. It has been alleged in the FIR that two private persons were managing the affairs of private Education Trust at Lucknow which runs the Institute of Medical Science, Sarai Shahzadi, Banthara, Kanpur Road, Lucknow, (UP). It has been also alleged that the aforesaid college is among 46 colleges who have been barred by the Government from admitting medical students for the forthcoming 1 or 2 years because of substandard facilities and non fulfilment of the required criteria. It has been further alleged that the said private person got in touch with the Retd. Justice of the High Court of Orissa and a private person resident of New Delhi, through another private person entered into criminal conspiracy for getting the matter settled.
In furtherance of the said conspiracy, a private person was caught when he was coming out after taking Rs. One crore allegedly from a hawala operator based at Chandni Chowk, Delhi. Searches were conducted at nine places including Delhi, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneshwar, Odhisha & Lucknow at the premises of accused persons and others which led to recovery of Rs. 91.90 lakh (approx).
Further investigation is continuing.
