CBI Court convicts retired IRS officer in DA case

CHENNAI, NOV 12, 2017: THE CBI Court here has convicted Mr S. Arumugam, IRS, Addl. Commissioner, Customs and Central Excise, Chennai (Retd.) for two years in a case filed by CBI.
The Anti-Corruption Branch of CBI, Chennai investigated a case against the IRS officer and his family members for acquiring assets in his name and in the name of his family members during the check period from 01.01.1998 to 30.09.2010, to the tune of Rs.1,39,04,113/- which was disproportionate to his known sources of income, for which he could not satisfactorily account for.
After completion of investigation, charge sheet was filed by CBI against the accused persons and on completion of trial, the accused persons and two private persons were convicted and sentenced to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment for two years. Other family members were acquitted. A total fine of Rs. 30,000/- was also imposed on them.
