CBEC creates two New Customs Commissionerates; 1044 posts diverted from CGST units

By TIOL News Service

NEW DELHI, JAN 13, 2018: WITH the introduction of GST the CBEC continues to be caught in a web of manpower re-distribution and creation of new Commissionerates based on business activities and workload on the nearby Commissionerates. As per the latest decision the Board has approves the creation of two more Customs Commissionerates at Indore and Nagpur.

Having created new Commissionerates, the Board has diverted posts of Commissioner from Chennai Customs V and Appeal II from Mumbai Customs II. With this reorganisation, only one Appeal Commissionerate now exists in Mumbai II Customs.

With two more Customs Commissionerates being put in place, the CBEC has also reduced about 1044 posts of GST Commissionerates and diverted the same to the Customs. However, the controlling authority for all such posts will remain with the CGST Commissionerate.
