NEW DELHI, APRIL 04, 2018: THOUGH the Apex Court has deferred the decision on the issue of linking Aadhaar to various other identities of a citizen but the Government seems to be leaving no stone unturned to expand the ambit of Aadhaar to new frontiers. The latest is the Ministry of Home Affairs advisory to the States and the UTs that prison inmates should also be Aadhaar seeded so that various aspects of day to day prison administration like production before court, return to prison, transport, health facilities, interview, free legal aid, parole, temporary release mechanism, educational/vocational training, release from prison etc. can be regulated by use of Aadhaar.
While replying to a question in the Lok Sabha yesterday, the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mr Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, informed that his Ministry has advised all States and Union Territories (UTs) to make use of Aadhaar for identification of visitors to ensure that facilities are being availed by authorized individuals.
