CJI has all the powers to decide on allocation of cases: Supreme Court

NEW DELHI, APRIL 11, 2018: DISMISSING a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking tailoring of proper guidelines for transparent allotment of cases among the Judges and the formation of the Constitution Bench, the Supreme Court today dismissed the same, ruling that the Chief Justice of India is the first among the equals and has the necessary authority to decide on the manner and methodology of allocation of cases among the brother judges.
The Bench comprising of the CJI, Justice Dipak Misra, Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice A M Khanwilkar, noted that the CJI is a constitutional authority and there should be not even an iota of doubt or distrust about the responsibilities he discharges about the work being done by the highest court in the country.
With this ruling the Apex Court has set at rest all the controversies relating to these issues.
