March, 18 records 17.9% hike in forex earnings from tourism

NEW DELHI, MAY 01, 2018: THE Ministry of Tourism today stated that foreign exchange earning through tourism for March 2018, were Rs 17294 crores, in comparison with earnings of Rs 14667 crores in March 2017 and Rs 12985 crores in March 2016. Such figures are based on credit data of Travel Head from Balance of Payments of the RBI. This translates into a growth rate of 17.9% in forex earnings in March 2018 over March 2017, compared to the growth of 13.0% in March 2017 over March 2016.

It was further stated that the forex earnings during the period January to March 2018 were Rs 52916 crores with a growth of 15.5%, as compared to the earnings of Rs 45819 crores in January to March 2017 with a growth of 13.6% over January to March 2016. In terms of USD, forex earnings during the month of March 2018 were US$ 2.659 billion as compared to FEEs of US$ 2.224 billion during the month of March 2017 and  US$ 1.938 billion in March 2016. Moreover, the growth rate in forex earnings in terms of USD in March 2018 over March 2017 was 19.6% compared to the growth of 14.8% in March 2017 over March 2016.

It was also stated that during the period January-March 2018, the forex earnings were US$ 8.228 billion with a growth of 20.4% as compared to the FEE of US$ 6.833 billion in January to March 2017 with a growth of 14.4% over January to March 2016.
