NEW DELHI, AUG 20, 2018: IT has generally been seen that the Government offices confront serious fund crunch as the Department of Expenditure keeps issuing directives to curb expenditure. But in the case of CGST field offices, it is perhaps a case of surplus! Or, it is a case of slow utilisation of funds allocated. The DGHRD has shot off a letter to all senior officers in the field asking for reasons for poor utilisation of funds given to them.
As per the CBIC data, the Govt has allocated Rs 2875 Crore to be spent on office expenses, rent, information technology and also capital goods. In the first four months, as per the Department of Expenditure guidelines, about 37% of the funds should be spent but only about 32% has been expended so far. Though there is a monthly reporting requirement but all the offices have not been doing it and that is the reason that the DGHRD was compelled to seek reasons for falling short of the monthly target!
