First batch of trained sniffer dogs with handlers passes out: Amritsar Customs

AMRITSAR, SEPT 19, 2020: YESTERDAY was a Red Letter Day in the history of Customs (Preventive) Amritsar and Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs as on this day 1st Batch of the trained sniffer dogs has passed out. There were 10 dogs and their handlers who have passed out. This ceremony was flagged off by Sungita Sharma, Zonal Member, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, New Delhi who was the Chief Guest of the ceremony and attended the function through online mode in the presence of Ranjana Jha, Chief Commissioner of Customs (Preventive), Delhi Zone, New Delhi who also made her presence through online mode.
Sanjay Kumar Rastogi, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Davinder Singh Chaudhry, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, A.S. Ranga, Commissioner of Customs (Preventive) Amritsar, Vipan Kant Seth, Airport Director, and Saravjit, Commandant BSF, Amritsar, were also present in the passing out parade ceremony.
The Chief Guest in her key note address congratulated the Customs officers as well as the dogs and the trainers. She emphasised on the ever changing modus-operandi of smuggling activities which are challenging to bust without the help of sniffer dogs which possess the unique sniffing traits that help in detecting such difficult concealments. She said that this will go a long way in strengthening the Anti-Smuggling function of the various Customs formations across the country once they are deployed to their respective formations.
