PM Modi reviews vaccine development at Zydus Cadila facility

AHMEDABAD, NOV 28, 2020: PRIME Minister Mr Narendra Modi visited the Zydus Biotech Park near Ahmedabad today to reviews the development of its COVID-19 vaccine candidate, ZyCOV-D.
"Visited the Zydus Biotech Park in Ahmedabad to know more about the indigenous DNA based vaccine being developed by Zydus Cadila. I compliment the team behind this effort for their work. Government of India is actively working with them to support them in this journey," Mr Modi tweeted.
He interacted with scientists and company officials and was briefed about the vaccine trials and the production process.
Zydus Cadila's vaccine candidateZyCoV-D is currently in phase-2 clinical trials where they have completed dosing of 1,000 participants. The phase-3 trials will be expected to test it on about 30,000 people. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) document, this is a three-dose vaccine.
Mr Modi then left for Bharat Biotech's facility near Hyderabadto check the development for the country-made Covaxin which in undergoing phase-3 trials. He will then fly to Pune's Serum Institute of India (SII) which has partnered with AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford for their vaccine.
