Modi seeks suggestions on regulatory process from teams working on COVID-19 vaccine

NEW DELHI, NOV 30, 2020: The Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, today had virtual meetings with three teams working on developing and manufacturing vaccine for COVID-19 and sought ideas regarding the regulatory processes.
The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said the teams were from Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Ltd Pune, Biological E Ltd Hyderabad and Dr. Reddys Laboratories Ltd Hyderabad.
During the meeting, Mr Modi discussed the potential of various platforms for vaccine development. He also asked the companies to come out with their suggestions and ideas regarding the regulatory processes and related matters.
The prime minister also appreciated the efforts being taken by the scientists in these companies to come out with a vaccine solution to tackle COVID-19. He suggested that the companies should take extra efforts to inform the general public in simple language about the vaccine and its efficacy.
Matters relating to logistics, transport, cold chain in respect of delivering the vaccines were also discussed.
PMO said all the vaccine candidates discussed are at different stages of trials and detailed data and results are expected early next year onwards.
The prime minister advised all the departments to engage with the manufacturers and aid them so that the vaccines are developed at the earliest.
Last week, Mr Modi had also visited Serum Institute of India, Zydus Biotech Park and Bharat Biotech facilities as part of his three-city visit to review vaccine development and manufacturing process against COVID-19.
