Dighawara-Bandikui railway route electrified between Ajmer and Delhi

By TIOL News Service

NEW DELHI, NOV 30, 2020: In a key step towards making the National Capital Region (NCR) free from diesel engines, the Dighawara-Bandikui rail route between Ajmer and Delhi was electrified.

Railway Minister Mr Piyush Goyal flagged off the first train on the newly electrified route at the Dighawara station.

The minister said that the electrification work in Rajasthan was done on the Kota-Mumbai line 35 years ago, and after that it was neglected. A target has now been set by Indian Railways to electrify the entire percentage of its broad-gauge rail lines across India by 2023.

With 18,065 km of electrification, railways has seen a 371% increase in electrification during 2014-20 period as compared to 2009-2014. In Rajasthan itself, in the last five-and-a-half years, they have electrified 1,433 kilometres.

The electrified trains will eliminate pollution as well as the dependence on the fuel imported from outside. The government will also save significant revenue as the energy used for operations will be produced in India.

The average speed of trains will increase and there will be development of industries, agro-based businesses and progress of villagers and farmers, the minister said, and added that over 66% of tracks have already been electrified.
