Development efforts of India, Sri Lanka 'synergistic' says Sitharaman

NEW DELHI, DEC 02, 2020: THE development efforts of India and Sri Lanka are synergistic and there is scope for cooperation in the initiatives, said Finance Minister Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman in her keynote at the inauguration of the Sri Lanka Economic Summit (SLES) 2020 on Tuesday.
Addressing the summit virtually, she said India's Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan and the vision of Self Reliant Sri Lanka, are "synergistic and complementary" and could be used to further consolidate the economic rejuvenation efforts by both countries.
She highlighted that cooperation between the two nations would be beneficial for a sustained growth that is essential for people-centric development in the two countries.
Highlighting India's history of being a strong partner in development cooperation relations with Sri Lanka, the minister expressed readiness to continue meaningful economic cooperation for mutual benefits. She also highlighted the importance of regulatory consistency and policy certainty for industry and private sector.
The SLES, annually organised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and the theme for this year is "Roadmap for Take-off: Driving a People–Centric Economic Revival."
