NEW DELHI, DEC 16, 2020: INDIA has the potential to become the world's leading economy and a partnership between the industry and government can ensure the country reaches its target to become a USD 5 trillion economy by 2025, said Minister of Commerce and Industry Mr Piyush Goyal on Tuesday.

Mr Goyal was interacting with the members of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) during its annual plenary session.

The minister hailed the role played by the industry to tide over the COVID-related hardships, to ensure orderly handling of the pandemic.

"This nation is proud of each and every one of you. This nation will always remember the way the Indian industry rose to the occasion, the way it expanded capacities to start manufacturing PPEs, masks, ventilators in India," he added.

Mr Goyal said the world is looking upon India as a trusted partner to strengthen the global supply chain and it is our duty to take this opportunity and make Aatmanirbhar Bharat "our mantra, inspiration and goal."

According to the minister, Aatmanirbhar Bharat is the module to make India not only self-sufficient but also to make the country a manufacturing hub.

"We must leverage our millions of skilled young boys and girls to become the factory of the world, just like we are today recognised as the pharmacy of the world. Industry and government have to partner to ensure that we reach our USD 5 trillion target by 2025," Mr Goyal added further.

He urged industry leaders to work together to meet the needs of 135 crore Indians, needs for good quality healthcare, good education, and a decent life.
