Cabinet nod for India-US MoU for exchange of information in energy sector

NEW DELHI, DEC 16, 2020: THE Cabinet today approved a pact between India and the U.S. for exchange of information and experiences in areas of mutual interest in the electricity sectors.
The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) proposed to enter into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
"The MoU will help in improving regulatory and policy framework for developing efficient wholesale power market and enhancing grid reliability," the Cabinet said.
The activities to be carried out under the MoU include identifying energy-related issues and developing topics and possible agendas for the exchange of information and regulatory practices in areas of mutual interest.
The two organisations proposed to organise regular visits and exchanges between commissioners and staff to participate in activities at the other's facilities, including seminars. It also includes that when practical and of mutual interest, provide speakers on energy issues and other personnel
The MoU will also facilitate the development of programmes of mutual interests and where appropriate hold these programs locally to enhance participation.
