In a statement today, the Ministry of Law and Justice said a total number of 8,152 benches were constituted by 31 State Legal Services Authorities (SLAs) virtually and physically.
According to the ministry, they were able to successfully dispose of 10,42,816 cases - 5,60,310 at the pre-litigation stage and 4,82,506 pending cases.
The cases included motor accidents, labour disputes, money recovery, land acquisition, maintenance cases, matrimonial disputes (except divorce), service matters relating to pay, allowances and retirement benefits, and other civil cases.
The Lok Adalats, conducted by NALSA are an alternative method of dispute resolution. It is a forum where disputes pending in the court of law or at pre-litigation stage are settled or compromised amicably.
National Lok Adalats are conducted quarterly for settlement of cases, both pre-litigation and post-litigation, in all the courts from the Supreme Court of India to the Taluk Courts on a single day.
In its virtual format, the e-Lok Adalats have leveraged technology to provide a platform where over 3 lakh cases have been disposed up to November 2020.
