India only major country set to achieve Paris Agreement targets: PM Modi

NEW DELHI, DEC 24, 2020: PRIME Minister Mr Narendra Modi today said that India is the only major country on the right path to achieve the environmental goals of the Paris Agreement to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.
During his address at the centenary celebrations of Visva-Bharati University in West Bengal's Shantiniketan, via videconference, the PM noted that the country is leading the world in environmental protection.
"India today is leading the world in environmental protection through the International Solar Alliance. India is the only country in the world today which is on the right path to achieve the Paris Accord's environmental goals," said Mr Modi.
The PM remarked that India is spreading the message emanating from Visva-Bharati of working for the country, to the whole world.
He said the name ‘Visva-Bharati' encapsulates the linkage of sharing best practices between India and the world.
"Gurudev's [Rabindranath Tagore] vision for Vishwa Bharati is also the essence of self-reliant India," Mr Modi said, referring to the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
He concluded that the self-reliant India campaign is also the path of India's welfare which in turn will be to the world's benefit.
"This campaign is a campaign to empower India, a campaign to bring prosperity from the prosperity of India to the world," said the country's Prime Minister.
Founded by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore in 1921, Visva-Bharati is the oldest Central university in the country with the Prime Minister serving as the Chancellor of the University.
