India reports lowest daily COVID-19 deaths in 8 months

NEW DELHI, JAN 18, 2021: INDIAN reported 13,788 new COVID-19 cases, 14,457 recoveries and 145 deaths in the last 24 hours, per the data of the Health Ministry today.
"The country has recorded less than 150 fatalities (145) in the last 24 hours after approximately 8 months (7 months 23 days)," said the Health Ministry.
Kerala continues to report the highest number of daily new cases at 5,005, followed by Maharashtra and Karnataka with 3,081 and 745 new cases, respectively.
The total number of recoveries touched 1,02,11,342, nearly 50 times the active cases in the country which stands at 2,08,012 as of date. The country's recovery rate reached 96.59% while the active cases comprise 1.97% of the total caseload.
Meanwhile, the daily new cases remained below 20,000 for the past 11 days, as the cumulative case load reached 1,05,71,773.
According to the India Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 5,48,168 samples were tested on Sunday.
