NEW DELHI, FEB 02, 2021: MINISTER for Information and Broadcasting Mr Prakash Javadekar on Monday said the Union Budget 2021-22 was "forward-looking" and give a major boost to employment.

Speaking to the media after the presentation of the budget by Finance Minister Ms Nirmala Sitharaman in the Parliament, Mr Javadekar said that India has managed to emerge from the ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The coronavirus pandemic has hit economies across the world, but India has not only won the battle against COVID-19 but is also moving forward in its fight against poverty and towards prosperity," said the minister.

Highlighting the massive budgetary boost in capital expenditure, 34.5 per cent from the previous fiscal, he said the Rs. 5.54 lakh crore investment is a major initiative.

"This will give a major fillip to employment," he added.

Ms Sitharaman had said that despite the resource crunch, the Central government has been spending more on capital and the total capital expenditure during 2020-21 will be at around Rs. 4.39 lakh crore.
