By TIOL News Service

NEW DELHI, FEB 03, 2021: PARTS of Northwest and adjoining Central India, Bihar and Jharkhand are set to experience a wet spell, heralding the end of the winters, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Forecasting Centre of the IMD, cold wave conditions are set to end as minimum temperatures will see a gradual rise in most parts of Northwest and Central India from February 2, and Uttar Pradesh and Bihar by February 4.

Under the influence of western disturbances and the confluence of the south-westerlies cyclonic circulation, weather will likely be affected over the Northwest Himalayan region from February 2.

"The confluence of southwesterlies in association with the western disturbance and lower level southeasterlies is very likely over the plains of Northwest and adjoining areas of Central India during February 3-5," said the IMD.

Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain and snow with isolated thunderstorm are likely to hit the Western Himalayan region from February 2-5. Parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh can expect heavy rainfall and snowfall between February 3-5.

Northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand are likely to see isolated to fairly widespread light to moderate rain or thundershowers from February 3-6, following the westward movement of the cyclonic systems.

Meanwhile, a gradual rise in minimum temperatures is likely over the affected Northwest and adjoining Central Indian region during the next three to four days, with the current spell of cold wave likely to abate.

The dense fog, cold wave and cold day conditions will also abate from eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar from February 3-4 as the cyclonic weather system moves westwards.
