Cereals exports rise 53 per cent to Rs 49,832Cr in Apr-Dec: APEDA

NEW DELHI, FEB 03, 2021: AGRI export promotion body, Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), said on Wednesday the country's cereals exports increased by 53 per cent to Rs. 49,832 crore in the first three quarters of the ongoing financial year, compared to the year before period.
According to the data of the Ministry of Commerce, India achieved impressive growth in cereals exports in the April-December 2020-21 period, despite the challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic.
“Cereals have a share of 48.61 per cent in the total exports under the APEDA basket,” said an official statement.
Basmati rice exports grew by 5.31 per cent to Rs. 22,038 crore while the non-basmati segment witnessed a spike of 122.61 per cent to Rs. 22,856 crore.
Meanwhile, wheat exports rose by 456 per cent to Rs. 1,870 crore, while exports of other cereals like millet and maize grew by 177 per cent to Rs. 3,067 crore.
APEDA also held the first Product Committee meeting for Floriculture, Seeds and Cereals on Wednesday, where they deliberated on issues related to export promotion. Considering the potential of increasing rice exports, APEDA said it is closely interacting with traders and industry bodies to prepare a perspective Action Plan for 2021-26.
