India reports 12,899 new COVID-19 cases, active cases under 2Lac for over 2 weeks

NEW DELHI, FEB 04, 2021: INDIA on Thursday reported 12,899 new coronavirus infections, 107 deaths and 17,824 recoveries in the past 24 hours, said the Ministry of Health on Thursday.
The country has confirmed 1,07,90,183 COVID-19 cases as of date, with 1,54,703 fatalities and 1,04,80,455 recoveries, showed the ministry's data.
Even as the national tally crossed the 1.07-crore mark, infections and deaths have reduced significantly since the mid-September peak of nearly a lakh a day.
The total active caseload dropped to 1,55,025 on Thursday, consisting of 1.44 per cent of the total positive cases.
"The day-on-day change in number of active cases over the past few weeks depicts the consistent decline in the active cases," said the ministry, adding that the active cases remained below the 2-lakh mark for the 16th consecutive day.
According to the ICMR, 19,92,16,019 samples have been tested for the virus up to February 3 with 7,42,841 checked in the past day.
Meanwhile, the vaccination programme which started on January 16, has managed to inoculate nearly 45 lakh healthcare and frontline workers in the past 19 days.
In the last 24 hours, over 3.1 lakh people were vaccinated nationwide, said the ministry.
The government has placed a second purchase order with the Serum Institute of India for 1 crore doses of Covishield vaccine.
