India records 12,408 new cases, active cases slide to 1.4 per cent

NEW DELHI, FEB 05, 2021: INDIA reported 12,408 daily new COVID-19 cases, 15,853 recoveries and 120 deaths in the last 24 hours, said the Ministry of Health on Friday.
With this, the country's tally of coronavirus infections reached 1,08,02,591, while the fatalities rose to 1,54,823 and recoveries to 1,04,96,308.
"India's total active caseload continues to follow a consistent downward slide," said the ministry.
The active cases dropped to 1,51,460 and has remained consistently below the total number of deaths, it added.
As per official data, the active caseload consists of just 1.40 per cent of India's total coronavirus infections.
Meanwhile, as many as 49,59,445 healthcare and frontline workers have been vaccinated across the country so far, with 5.09 lakh receiving the first dose in the past day.
The government said the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will be administer from February 13 onwards.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said a total of 19,99,31,795 samples have been tested for COVID-19, with 7,15,776 samples tested in the last 24 hours.
