NEW DELHI, FEB 08, 2021: INDIA added 11,831 new COVID-19 cases, 11,904 recoveries and 84 daily new fatalities on Monday, said the Health Ministry. India's tally of cases rose to 1,08,38,194, while the number of those discharged reached 1,05,34,505 and fatalities surged to 1,55,080.
"In a significant achievement, India has been recording less than 150 daily deaths continuously for the last 10 days," said the ministry.
The active cases declined to 1,48,609 in the past day, comprising 1.37 per cent of the cumulative positive count. Kerala and Maharashtra account for 70 per cent of the total active cases in India.
Moreover, Maharashtra has shown the maximum decline of active cases in the past month as it went to 52,276 on January 8 to 37,213 a month later.
India has become the third topmost country in the world, in terms of the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered, said the government.
It has vaccinated 58,12,362 healthcare and frontline workers under the countrywide COVID-19 vaccination drive, said the ministry, with 36,804 receiving their shots in the last 24 hours.
In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Health Mr Ashwini Choubey said on Friday that India's COVID-19 vaccination drive was going slower due to vaccine hesitancy among the beneficiaries and transient technical issues in the CoWIN portal.
He revealed that a total of 7,580 adverse events following immunisation were reported till January 31. However, none of the 12 deaths of vaccinated persons were causally attributed to the vaccination as per the current evidence.
Apart from free of cost supply of the vaccines, the operational cost of Rs 123.49 crore has been released to the States and union territories for continuing the drive, he added.
