India reports over 9,000 new daily COVID-19 cases with 78 deaths

NEW DELHI, FEB 09, 2021: INDIA'S cumulative COVID-19 cases continued to increase at a slower pace as the country records 9,110 daily new cases over the last 24 hours, said the Ministry of Health on Tuesday.
Over the past day, the active cases dropped to 1,43,625, as there were 14,016 people who were recovered and discharged, while 78 deaths were reported nationwide.
India's tally stands at 1,08,47,304 confirmed coronavirus cases with 1,05,48,521 recoveries and 1,55,158 fatalities.
Less than 100 deaths have been reported since the last four days, noted the ministry.
"With a consistent rise in cumulative recoveries, India's recovery rate has reached 97.25 per cent - one of the highest globally. UK, USA, Italy, Russia, Brazil and Germany have lower recovery rate than India's," it added.
The case fatality rate (CFR) of 1.43 per cent is also among the lowest in the world, with the global average at 2.18 per cent.
India's vaccination campaign has also continued with over 4.4 lakh beneficiaries receiving their shots in the past 24 hours. According to the Health Ministry data, 54.8 lakh healthcare workers and 7.76 lakh frontline workers have been vaccinated in the country.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said a total of 20,25,87,752 samples have been tested for the virus up to February 8, with 6,87,138 tested on the day itself.
