'India will do its best': PM to Canada's Trudeau on delivering COVID-19 vaccines

NEW DELHI, FEB 11, 2021: CANADIAN Prime Minister Mr Justin Trudeau dialled Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi on Wednesday to discuss issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic and shared Canada's requirements of the vaccine.
Mr Trudeau was assured by the PM that India would do its best to support Canada's vaccination efforts, just as it had done for many other countries already,
Later, Mr Modi tweeted, "Was happy to receive a call from my friend Justin Trudeau. Assured him that India would do its best to facilitate supplies of COVID vaccines sought by Canada."
Expressing his appreciation, the Canadian leader said that if the world managed to conquer COVID-19, it would be significantly because of India's tremendous pharmaceutical capacity, and Prime Minister Modi's leadership in sharing this capacity with the world.
Mr Modi thanked PM Trudeau for his sentiments.
The two leaders also reiterated the common perspective shared by India and Canada on many important geo-political issues.
Mr Trudeau's office said they "reaffirmed their common interests in a free and open Indo-Pacific, and the importance of working together on global challenges such as climate change, strengthening global trade, and reinforcing the rules-based international order."
Canada and India's commitment to democratic principles and the need to work collectively in rebuilding a more sustainable and resilient global economy, were also touched on.
They agreed to continue the close collaboration between both countries in fighting global challenges like climate change.
The leaders underscored the importance of the Canada-India strategic partnership and looked forward to meeting each other and working together at the G7, G20 and other international forums.
