Cheaper vegetables help ease retail inflation to 4.06 per cent in January

NEW DELHI, FEB 13, 2021: ACCORDING to provisional data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) on Friday, lower food prices dragged the all-India inflation rates to 4.06 per cent in January, 2021, compared to 4.59 per cent in December, 2020.
Inflation based on general indices was 3.23 per cent in rural and 5.06 per cent in urban areas in January, compared to 4.07 per and 5.19 per cent in December respectively, it said.
The Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI), which measures change in retail prices of food almost halved as it decreased from 3.41 per cent in December, 2020 to 1.89 per cent last month.
The cooling inflation falls within the Reserve Bank's range of 2-6 per cent.
The Index of Industrial Production (IIP), which measures industry activity, grew 1 per cent in December, 2020 as factory output grew 0.4 per cent and manufacturing sector grew 1.6 per cent, said the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Friday. Mining output declined by 4.8 per cent while power generation grew 5.1 per cent.
