Maharashtra, Kerala sees COVID tally surge as India records 11,649 fresh cases

NEW DELHI, FEB 15, 2021: INDIA reported 11,649 fresh COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, with Kerala reporting the highest figures followed by Maharashtra, said the Ministry of Health on Monday.
India's tally of confirmed infections rose to 1,09,16,589 with 4,612 reported from Kerala and another 4,092 from Maharashtra over the past day.
The number of recoveries and fatalities surged to 1,06,21,220 and 1,55,732 respectively, as 9,489 patients were discharged and 90 succumbed to the virus.
Six States account for 80 per cent of the daily deaths on Monday, with Maharashtra recording the maximum casualties, 40.
India's total active caseload stood at 1,39,637 and consists of 1.28 per cent of the total positive cases, said the ministry.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said 20,67,16,634 samples have been checked for coronavirus so far, with 4,86,122 samples tested on Sunday.
The government also said nearly 83 lakh beneficiaries have been vaccinated, including 59.8 lakh healthcare and 22.72 frontline workers. There are also 24,561 healthcare workers who have received their second dose of the vaccine.
