NEW DELHI, FEB 15, 2021: DEFENCE Minister Mr Rajnath Singh on Sunday commended the Delhi Police for their service and duty while handing them the one of the best marching contingent trophies of the Republic Day Parade.
"Delhi is the nerve centre of Republic of India, thereby if a foreign power wants to send a message via nefarious activities, Delhi is the target of our adversaries and the Delhi Police remains active in ensuring our safety and wellbeing," he said.
The Defence Minister handed over the award for 'Best marching contingent among the three services' to the Jat Regimental Centre while the 'Best marching contingent among Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and other auxiliary forces' was won by Delhi Police.
"I congratulate all for performing splendidly on Republic Day and preparing year-round despite the COVID crisis. If someone were to witness the 'unity in diversity' of India, they must come to see the march at Rajpath," Mr Singh said.
Describing India as the land of varied cultures and religions, he said the marchpast on Republic Day symbolises the country's unity in diversity and reflects the sense of national pride and preparedness of the security forces.
Pointing out that the Defence Forces are well aware of the mantra "the more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war," he said, "Our forces ensure that peace and tranquility and unity and integrity are maintained throughout."
On Twitter, Mr Singh also paid homage to the 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who died in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack and said the nation will never forget their sacrifice.
"India will never forget their service to the nation and their supreme sacrifice. We continue to stand with their families, who had to suffer due to this attack," he tweeted on the two-year anniversary of the incident, which saw India launch a retaliatory airstrike in Pakistan's Balakot.
