Jal Jeevan Mission installs tap water connection in 3.53Cr rural households

NEW DELHI, FEB 17, 2021: THE Jal Jeevan Mission-Rural reached a milestone of having provided tap water connections to 3.53 rural households while the government also launched surveys in 10 pilot cities for the Jal Jeevan Mission-Urban.
"The untiring efforts of States/Union Territories (UTs) have helped Jal Jeevan Mission provide 3.53 Crore tap water connections. Now 6.76 crore (35.24 per cent) i.e. more than 1/3rd of rural households are getting potable water through taps," said Ministry of Jal Shakti on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs launched the 'Pey Jal Survekshan' survey in 10 pilot cities, collecting data on drinking water and wastewater management for the Jal Jeevan Mission - Urban.
The survey will determine the equitable distribution of water, reuse of wastewater and mapping of water bodies in Agra, Badlapur, Bhubaneswar, Churu, Kochi, Madurai, Patiala, Rohtak, Surat and Tumkur.
The data will be collected through face-to-face interviews with citizens and municipal officials as per the approved questionnaire, on-call interviews, water sample collection and laboratory testing, and field survey for non-revenue water.
