Strong India-Australia partnership will play key role in shaping post-COVID world: PM

By TIOL News Service

NEW DELHI, FEB 19, 2021: THE strong partnership between India and Australia will play an important role in shaping the post-COVID world, Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi told the participants of the India-Australia Circular Economy Hackathon on Friday.

Addressing the valedictory function, Mr Modi said there was an urgent need to look at our consumption-oriented economic models to reduce their ecological impact and strain on the planet.

"We must never forget that we are not the owners of all that Mother Earth has to offer, but merely its trustees for all the future generations to come," he said.

Stressing that efficient and less polluting production processes were not enough, the Prime Minister said that the circular economy can be a solution to the challenges.

"Recycling and reusing things, eliminating waste, and improving resource efficiency must become part of our lifestyles," he emphasised.

The PM said the participants of the hackathon are a symbol of the forward-looking partnership between India and Australia, who will inspire the two nations to take the lead in circular economy solutions.

"The strong India-Australia partnership will play an important role in shaping the post-COVID world. And our youth, our young innovators, our startups, will be at the forefront of this partnership," he concluded.

The Prime Minister's speech comes a day after he spoke to his Australian counterpart, Mr Scott Morrison, and discussed their comprehensive strategic partnership and commitments in the Indo-Pacific.
