CBI arrests Standard Chartered bank officer for demanding bribe

CHENNAI, FEB 19, 2021: THE CBI's Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Chennai branch arrested a Standard Chartered bank officer for demanding and obtaining a bribe of Rs. 3,00,000 on Thursday.
A criminal case has been registered against Mr Rajendran, an authorised officer of the Rajaji Salai branch of Standard Chartered bank, Group Special Assets Management, said the CBI.
Complainant Mr S Srivanth Visveshwaran, a Coimbatore resident, had been asked to pay Rs. 3 lakh for a favourable OTS (One-Time Settlement) and to win the case at the Debts Recovery Tribunal (DRT).
On February 18, the CBI laid a trap where Mr Rajendran was invited to The League Club in Koyambedu on the pretence of being paid the amount.
"He was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs. 3,00,000 from the complainant," said an official statement.
The accused was arrested and the bribe amount was recovered. He will be produced in the court of the Principal Special Judge for CBI Cases, Chennai.
