Nation-first approach leads to solutions: PM at Visva Bharati convocation

NEW DELHI, FEB 19, 2021: PRIME Minister Mr Narendra Modi on Friday called on Visva Bharati student to put the nation first while looking for solutions and advised them to not be afraid of decision-making as he addressed their convocation via video conferencing.

Extolling the university's heritage, he said the faculty and students were bearers of a "vibrant tradition."

"Visva Bharati is a free ocean of knowledge, the foundation of which was laid for experience-based education. With knowledge, there is no limit to creativity," the Prime Minister told the 2,535 graduating students.

He said that Guru Rabindranath Tagore had not envisioned the university as a typical educational institution but one that will assimilate with the Indian culture and work towards solving problems.

Mr Modi urged the students to remember that knowledge, thought and skill are not "still and static but a dynamic concept."

With knowledge comes responsibility and it holds a legacy for future generations, he said, and told the students to decide whether they want to be part of the problem or the solution.

"You will find some highly educated, skilled people among those who are spreading terror and violence in the world. On the other hand, some people are toiling day and night to free the world from a global epidemic like COVID-19. What matters most is the mindset," he said.

"If you put the nation first, then every decision will move towards some solution," added Mr Modi

The PM said that as long as the youth of the country have the passion to innovate, take risks and move forward, then India's future is guaranteed. He urged the students and teachers to help farmers and artisans living in villages adopted by the institution to find global markets for their products.

Apart from Mr Modi, West Bengal Governor Mr Jagdeep Dhankhar and Union Education Minister Mr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank were also in attendance at the ceremony.
