India reports 13,193 new COVID-19 cases, 1Cr vaccine doses administered

CHENNAI, FEB 19, 2021: INDIA reported as many as 13,193 new COVID-19 cases, 97 fatalities and 10,896 recoveries in the last 24 hours, said the Health Ministry on Friday. The country also crossed a landmark of having administered more than 1 crore vaccine doses to beneficiaries.
With the addition of the new cases, the coronavirus tally reached 1,09,63,394 including 1,06,67,741 discharges and 1,56,111 deaths due to the virus.
The Maharashtra government imposed fresh 10-day lockdown in Yavatmal, and a weekend lockdown in the Amravati District owing to the rise in cases. A warning was also issued by Mumbai Mayor Mr Kishori Pednekar to re-impose the lockdown in the city if people continue to flout basic norms.
The measures come on the day when the State reported 5,427 new COVID-19 cases and saw its active cases rise by 2,846.
As per the ministry data, India's total active caseload stands at 1,39,542, which comprises 1.27 per cent of the total confirmed cases.
As on Day-34 of the vaccination drive that started on January 16, the government has administered a total of 1,01,88,007 vaccine doses to healthcare and frontline workers.
"These include 62,60,242 healthcare workers (first dose), 6,10,899 healthcare workers (second dose) and 33,16,866 frontline workers (first dose)," it said.
"India took 34 days to achieve the landmark feat of 1 crore vaccinations, the second fastest in the world," added the ministry.
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said they tested a total of 20,94,74,862 samples up to Thursday, with over 7.71 lakh tested on the day itself.
