Time to embark on 'One Nation One Standard' mission: Piyush Goyal

NEW DELHI, FEB 20, 2021: IT is time for India to lead in setting global benchmarks in setting standards said Minister of Commerce and Industry Mr Piyush Goyal as he reviewed the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on Saturday.

The strength and character of a nation is often exemplified by the standards it sets for the quality of its products and services, the minister said as he called for all production activities and services to be included in the national mission.

"It's time to embark on Mission 'One Nation One Standard' and make India the leader in setting global benchmarks in setting standards," he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Goyal said that lab-testing in India should meet world standards with the usage of the latest equipment and technologies. He added that an analysis of the performance of government laboratories should be taken up by BIS on a priority basis.

Referring to different institutions and companies with non-uniform standards, he said efforts should be made to collaborate on the 'One Nation One Standard' mission for their sake and to avoid duplication of work.
