NEW DELHI, FEB 20, 2021: HONDA Motor announced on Friday that Mr Toshihiro Mibe, head of research and development, will take office as its next chief executive from April 1.
Mr Mibe, 59 is scheduled to become Director, President and Representative Executive Officer (CEO) with the resolution of the shareholders at the meeting scheduled to be held in June, 2021.
He will replace Mr Takahiro Hachigo, who has held the role of leading Japan's second-biggest automaker by sales, for six years.
Joining the company in 1987, Mr Mibe has primarily worked in Research and Development (R&D), particularly in power train development and the drive-train business.
"I am now going to construct a "building," which is the future of Honda, on the foundation of existing businesses that Mr Hachigo solidified. And this building must have a resilience that can withstand this period of this "once in a hundred years" transformation," said Mr Mibe.
"We are going to embody and accelerate our initiatives toward the realization of both carbon neutrality and zero traffic collision fatalities by 2050," he added.
Mr Hachigo will remain on the company's board as a director from April 1, Honda said.
