Railways in West Bengal to be fully electrified in 3 years: Piyush Goyal

NEW DELHI, FEB 22, 2021: MINISTER of Railways Mr Piyush Goyal inaugurated various rail developments in West Bengal on Sunday and said that railways will be fully electrified in the State within the next three years.
He said the ministry is contributing immensely to the State's vision of Sonar Bangla (golden Bengal).
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Piyush Goyal said, "Railways is serving the nation in an extraordinary way. Railways has taken up on itself to contribute big time to the mission of Sonar Bangla. Railways would be fully electrified in three years in West Bengal and all ongoing projects will be completed at the earliest."
Adding that the development of north Bengal would attract more tourists, he said that Indian Railways is committed to the "holistic development" of the poll-bound State.
Mr Goyal dedicated to the nation the 126-km newly electrified section from New Jalpaiguri to New Coochbehar which will help the stretch carry more freight and passengers while decreasing its carbon footprint. The project cost about Rs. 287 crore.
The Haldibari station bordering Bangladesh has been constructed with three passenger platforms, 26 coach capacity and two goods line. The entire construction of the facilities cost about Rs. 82.72 crore. The electronic interlocking at Haldibari and Jalpaiguri stations have also been provided to enhance safety of train operations in this section.
A new foot over-bridge was constructed at Madarihat station falling in the Dooars section of north Bengal.
The Gangarampur station in the South Dinajpur district was converted to a crossing station with provision of high-level platform and modern electronic interlocking at a cost of about Rs. 9.09 crore. The Alipurduar Junction station has been re-developed with a new station building, lifts and escalators at a cost of Rs. 8.91 crore.
