GUWAHATI, FEB 22, 2021: AHEAD of the Assembly elections in Assam, Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi inaugurated several education sector, and oil and gas projects during his visit to Assam on Monday and said the region will drive India's growth.
Mr Modi dedicated to the nation five mega projects worth Rs. 3,000 crore including the INDMAX Unit at Indian Oil's Bongaigaon Refinery, Oil India's secondary tank farm at Madhuban, Dibrugarh, and a gas compressor station at Makum, Tinsukia. He also inaugurated the Dhemaji Engineering College and laid the foundation stone for the Sualkuchi Engineering College.
Addressing a gathering at Silapathar in Dhemaji, the Prime Minister said that the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision would be strengthened by Aatmanirbhar Assam and a stronger northeast.
"North East will be the new growth engine of India. Whenever I visit Assam, I get the fresh impetus and inspirations to do more for the northeastern region," he said.
Criticising past governments, he said the Centre and State governments are now working together for the balanced development of the region.
"Despite the State having great potential, former governments adopted step-motherly treatment by overlooking development in various sectors including health, education, and industry," the PM said.
The projects inaugurated on Monday, said Mr Modi, will strengthen the identity of the region as a hub of energy and education and would act as a symbol of Assam.
Assam Governor Mr Jagdish Mukhi, Chief Minister Mr Sarbananda Sonowal, and Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Mr Dharmendra Pradhan, and Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Mr Rameswar Teli were present on the occasion.
