Cabinet approves India-Fiji agreement for cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors

NEW DELHI, MAR 03, 2021: THE Cabinet on Wednesday has approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India's Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare and Fiji's Ministry of Agriculture for cooperation in the field of agriculture and allied sectors.
The MoU provides for cooperation in the exchange of researchers and specialists, enhancement and transfer of technology, development of infrastructure and human resources, and conducting workshops and seminars.
India and Fiji will also promote joint ventures between private sectors of both countries and investments in marketing and value addition of agricultural commodities. There is also scope for promotion of direct trade of agriculture products through market access.
As part of the agreement, a Joint Working Group (JWG) will be constituted to deal with phytosanitary issues and establish procedures and plans and recommend programmes of cooperation towards achieving the aims of both countries.
