30.22 crore lives covered by health insurance in April-Sept 2020: IRDAI

NEW DELHI, MAR 16, 2021: THE Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) said on Monday there were 30.22 crore people covered under various health insurance providers, excluding personal accident and travel business, from April to end of September, 2020.
Minister of State for Finance Mr Anurag Thakur informed the Lok Sabha that the total number of lives covered under the health insurance business, excluding personal accident and travel business, in 2019-20 was 49.87 crore.
Mr Thakur stated that IRDAI has further informed that the total number of lives covered under health insurance business from April-September 2020 period grew 69.8 per cent compared to the previous fiscal as it grew to 30.22 crore from 17.83 crore.
"In general, there has been no abnormal increase in health insurance premium during the pandemic," he said.
