Indian industrial output contracts 3.6% in Feb

NEW DELHI, APR 12, 2021: INDIA'S industrial activity, measured in terms of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), shrank 3.6 per cent in February compared to the same period in the previous year when it had grown 5.2 per cent, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Monday.
"For the month of February, 2021, the Quick Estimates of IIP with base 2011-12 stands at 129.4. The Indices of Industrial Production for the Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity sectors for the month of February, 2021 stand at 116.5, 129.3 and 153.9 respectively," said the ministry.
The mining output declined 5.5 per cent and manufacturing fell by 3.7 per cent. However, electricity production grew 0.1 per cent in February.
For April-February 2020-21, the IIP contracted 11.3 per cent year-on-year compared to 1 per cent growth in the previous fiscal.
