Remdesivir production tripled: Mandaviya

By TIOL News Service

NEW DELHI, MAY 04, 2021: AT a time when there is shortage of Remdesivir vials due to the surge in COVID-19 cases, the government on Tuesday said the medicine production has tripled over the past few days and the government will soon be able to meet the growing demand.

Production has gone up from 37 lakh vials on April 12 to 1.05 crore on May 4, said the Minister of State for Chemical and Fertilisers Mr Mansukh Mandaviya.

The number of plants producing Remdesivir have also gone up from 20 on April 12 to 57 as on Tuesday.

"The production of Remdesivir is being increased at a rapid pace in the country. In just a few days, India has achieved three times the production capacity of Remedesvir and will soon be able to meet the growing demand!" he said on Twitter.

The Centre has told the Supreme Court that Remdesivir is to be administered only after a medical prescription and limited to severe condition of COVID-19 patients strictly as per medical protocol and asked States to check hoarding and black marketing of the drug.
