NEW DELHI, MAY 05, 2021: THE Cabinet on Wednesday approved the signing of a comprehensive Migration and Mobility Partnership (MMP) agreement that will liberalise the issuance of UK visas for Indian students and professionals.
"It would benefit Indian students, academics, and researchers, migrants for professional and economic reasons and those willing to contribute through various projects to the economic development of both countries," said the Cabinet.
It will also support the innovation ecosystem in both countries by facilitating free flow of talent and strengthen cooperation on issues related to irregular migration and human trafficking between the two sides.
This comes after a virtual summit on Tuesday between Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Mr Boris Johnson where they reaffirmed that people-to-people contacts provide strength and durability to the bilateral partnership.
They called the 1.6 million strong Indian diaspora in the UK as the "living, thriving bridge between the two countries."
The Cabinet said the Ministry of External Affairs would closely monitor the effective implementation of the agreement through Joint Working Group mechanism.
