NEW DELHI, MAY 11, 2021: THE Agriculture Ministry on Mondays said its autonomous body National Horticulture Board (NHB) cleared a record 1,278 pending subsidy applications for integrated development of high tech commercial horticulture over the past year.
The government allocated Rs. 2,250 crore for development of the horticulture sector during 2021-22 under the Central scheme ‘Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture’ (MIDH).
Under the direct supervision of the ministry, the NHB has also taken a lot of steps for ease of doing business by simplification of scheme guideline, documentation and processing process of new applications. “During the last one year, the subsidy has been released to 357 beneficiaries while 921 new projects have been approved,” it added.
The NHB has also facilitated the convergence of its back-ended capital investment subsidy schemes with the Agri Infrastructure Fund Scheme of the ministry to encourage farmers and entrepreneurs to take advantage of subvention of 3 per cent interest on the loan with credit guarantee coverage for a loan up to Rs 2 crore for setting up post-harvest and cold chain infrastructure in the horticulture sector.
With the financial support of NHB, an area of 2,210 acre under high tech commercial horticulture, both in open and protected cultivation has been brought under horticulture while an additional cold storage capacity of 1.15 lakh tonne has been created.
The schemes have also attracted huge investment from the private sector and have become instrumental in the indigenisation of cost-effective greenhouse and cold chain technologies.
