NEW DELHI, JUNE 11, 2021: THE online nominations and recommendations for next year’s Padma Awards has been opened with the last date of submission on September 15, the Home Ministry said on Thursday.
India’s highest civilian honours –the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri –are announced on Republic Day every year.
Instituted in 1954, these awards seek to recognise “work of distinction” and are given for distinguished and exceptional achievements or service in disciplines such as art, literature and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civil service, trade and industry.
“The government is committed to transform the Padma Awards into “People’s Padma”. All citizens are therefore requested to make nominations and recommendations including self-nomination,” the ministry said.
The nominations should contain all relevant details specified in the format available on the Padma Portal, including a citation in narrative form clearly bringing out the distinguished and exceptional achievements or service. EE
The Ministry of Home Affairs has requested all Central ministries, departments, States, Bharat Ratna and Padma Vibhushan awardees, and academic institutions to identify talented persons.
