NEW DELHI, NOV 16, 2024: IN a tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, the Department of Posts proudly released a commemorative postage stamp to honor the 150th birth anniversary of the legendary tribal leader and freedom fighter. The stamp was unveiled by the Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the gracious presence of Hon'ble Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar and other esteemed dignitaries during a grand celebration held in Jamui, Bihar.

Born on 15th November 1875 in Ulihatu, Bihar (present-day Jharkhand), Birsa Munda led the historic Ulgulan (Great Rebellion) from 1899 to 1900, rallying thousands in the fight to reclaim tribal lands and resist colonial oppression. His advocacy for "Munda Raj" symbolized his dream of a just and self-governed society free from exploitation. Though he tragically passed at just 25, his message of courage and resilience continues to inspire communities throughout India.

The stamp, designed by Sankha Samanta, features a powerful portrayal of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, set against a backdrop depicting him addressing his followers. His resolute expression symbolizes his unwavering vision for tribal unity, empowerment, and self-governance. This commemorative stamp stands as a timeless tribute to his monumental contributions to India's freedom struggle and his steadfast commitment to safeguarding tribal rights.

The commemorative postage stamp, along with a First Day Cover (FDC) and Brochure, is available as a collectible, celebrating Bhagwan Birsa Munda's invaluable contributions to India's freedom and his enduring impact on the tribal communities.
