RURAL DEVELOPMENT

RURAL DEVELOPMENT

Sampoorna Gramin Rozgar Yojana

- 5100 crore rupees provided for the scheme. The objective of the scheme is to provide additional wage employment in rural areas as also food security. It envisages distribution of foodgrains @ 5 Kg per manday to the worker as part of the wages. The programme will be implemented through District and Block Panchayat and the Village Panchayat.

Swaranjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana

- 1000 crore rupees provided for the scheme which is a holistic self-employment programme with the objective of establishing a large number of micro-enterprises in rural areas. Activity clusters and group approach are the two key components of the programme. At least 50% of the swarozgaris will be SCs/STs, 40% women and 3% disabled.

Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana

- 2468 crore rupees provided for Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana with the objective of providing connectivity to unconnected rural habitations through good all weather roads.

Rural Housing

- 2500 crore rupees provided for rural housing for rural poor to be built by themselves.

Urban amenities in Rural Areas

- 1 crore rupees. Token allocation made for "Provision for Urban amenities in Rural Areas (PURA)".

DRINKING WATER SUPPLY

Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme

- 2900 crore rupees provided to supplement the States in their effort to provide safe drinking water to all rural habitations.

Rural Sanitation

- 400 crore rupees provided for rural sanitation is for Total Sanitation Campaign in selected districts to be decided by the States.

LAND RESOURCES

Integrated Wastelands Development Programme

- 448 crore rupees provided for additional 10 lakh hectares to be taken up for development on watershed basis through people's participation.

Drought Prone Areas Programme

- 300 crore rupees provided for additional areas covering about 12 lakh hectares.

Desert Development Programme

- 215 crore rupees provided for an additional area covering 8.50 lakh hectares.

Pradhan Mantri Grameen Jal Samvardhan Yojana

- 200 crore rupees provided for Water Conservation.

AGRICULTURE AND COOPERATION

- 350 crore rupees provided for Crop Insurance Scheme.

- 719.94 crore rupees provided for Macro-management in agriculture.

- 200 crore rupees provided for Technology Mission in Horticulture in North Eastern Region, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttaranchal.

FERTILIZERS

- 117.09 lakh tonnes of Nitrogenous fertilizer production targeted.

- 49.23 lakh tonnes of phosphatic fertilizer production targeted.

COAL AND LIGNITE

- 404.19 million tonnes of coal production targeted.

- 21 million tonnes of lignite production targeted.

ELEMENTARY EDUCATION AND LITERACY

- 3057 crore rupees provided for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. It is meant for implementation of universal elementary education in a mission mode with a clear district focus to provide quality elementary education to children of the age group of 6-14 years. Special focus will be on girls, children belonging to SC/ST communities, urban slum dwellers and low female literacy blocks.

- 1675 crore rupees provided for national programme of Nutritional Support to Primary Education.

- 250 crore rupees provided for Adult Education.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

- 750 crore rupees provided for the development and promotion of Information Technology.

HEALTH

- 269 crore rupees provided for National Vector Borne Disease programme, including Kala-Azar, Japanese Encephalitis, Filaria and Dengue.

- 232 crore rupees provided for National AIDS Control Programme.

- 125 crore rupees provided for Tuberculosis Control Programme.

- 88 crore rupees provided for Blindness Control Programme.

- 60 crore rupees provided for National Cancer Control Programme.

- 60 crore rupees provided for establishment of 6 AIIMS-type Hospitals-cum-teaching centres and upgradation of State Government Hospitals under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Surakhsa Yojana.

RAILWAYS

- 19680 wagons, 1785 coaches, 228 EMUs, 105 Diesel locos and 86 Electric locos to be added.

- 4000 kilometers of track renewal.

- 375 route kilometers of electrification.

- 800 route kilometers of gauge conversion.

- 230 kilometers new lines to be added.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS

To instal -

- 105 lakh direct exchange lines by BSNL & MTNL.

AGRO AND RURAL INDUSTRIES

- 164 crore rupees provided for Prime Minister's Rozgar Yojana to assist educated unemployed youth.

- 248 crore rupees provided for Rural Employment Generation Programme to generate additional employment in the rural industries/sector through development of Khadi and Village Industries.

SMALL SCALE INDUSTRIES

- 176 crore rupees provided for Credit Guarantee Fund for SSI to provide collateral free loan to SSI Sector.

STEEL

- 17.72 million tonnes of production of saleable steel by SAIL, RINL and TISCO targeted.

SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EMPOWERMENT

- 313.24 crore rupees provided for Post Matric Scholarships for SC students by which about 20.80 lakh students are likely to benefit during 2004-2005.

- 402 crore rupees provided towards Special Central Assistance for Special Component Plan by which about 4.50
lakh Scheduled Caste families are likely to benefit during 2004-2005.

NON CONVENTIONAL ENERGY SOURCES

- 4250 villages and hamlets proposed to be electrified.

- 525 MW power generation capacity to be added from renewables.

TRIBAL AFFAIRS

- 497 crore rupees provided towards Special Central Assistance to Tribal Sub-Plan Areas for the benefit of Scheduled Tribe families.

- 330 crore rupees provided for creating critical infrastructure in the Tribal Areas to bring them at par with developed areas.

- 65 crore rupees provided for Post Matric Scholarships for Scheduled Tribe students by which about 5 lakh students are likely to be benefited during 2004-05.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

- 216 crore rupees provided for Multi Disciplinary Research in Science and Technology Programme under the Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC).

SPACE

- 490 crore rupees provided for Geo-synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) Mark-III Development.

- 430 crore rupees provided for INSAT operation.

- 125 crore rupees provided for Radar Imaging Satellite-1
(RISAT-1).

- 70 crore rupees provided for Indian Lunar Mission - Chandrayaan -1.

SPORTS

- 126.34 crore rupees provided for Sports Authority of India.
