NEW DELHI, APRIL 29, 2018: THE GST Council is all set to meet on May 4 (Friday) and the key agenda items are the new GST Return Format (the Fusion model), the takeover of GST Network by the Government, e-Way Bill related clarificatory issues and also a proposal to levy CESS on sugar.
Meanwhile, the CBIC has stated that in the past 26 days 2.5 crore e-Way Bills have been generated which also goes to prove its smooth working. Similarly, e-way bill system for intra-State movement have now been introduced in 17 States / UTs. It has been observed that some States have provided exemption by exercising the powers provided under rule 138(14) of the State GST Rules, 2017 and there is heterogeneity in the type of exemptions given by different states, for example, some States have given exemption linked to the value of goods whereas some have given in respect of certain commodities. Hence, the CBIC has urged the Chief Commissioners of concerned zones to publicise the said exemptions in their States. This will help in avoiding any confusion arising out of the same.
